Floating market at Inle lake
Floating markets and floating gardens are common scenes on the waters of inle lake on the Shan mountains. People there live on waters, grow fruits and vegetables on the waters, and use the boats for transportation and traveling around.
This picture shows one of the floating market places on Inle lake where people of different tribes come and trade their products.
Inle lake area has became a tourist attraction and there is a fear that local people might one day lose their traditional identities such as the ability to row the boat using a leg.
Also there is a serious concern of environment. Inle lake is becoming smaller and shallower due to the loss of surrounding forestland on the hills.
Now is the time to seriously work hard to protect our environment.
