Myeik - the southern sea port
Myeik ( or Mergui ) is a beautiful sea side town on the south of Myanmar, in Thaninthayi division. Yangon to Myeik by land is 862 km of country road the second half of which is only possible during the dry season by the tough vehicles. Normally people fly or use sea transport to travel between Myeik and other places.
Thaninthayi division is a mountainous land strip bordering with Thailand on the east and with Andaman sea on the west. There are still a healthy amount of natural forest along the eastern hills, and the more than 800 undeveloped islands at sea. But all these are under the threat of un-controlled business activities.
The amount of damage made by such businesses has never been estimated. Sea and agricultural products are the major produce in this region.
